Scott Thornton, Principal Bass Trombone

Scott Thornton has held the position of Principal Bass Trombonist for the San Francisco Ballet Orchestra since 1995.  Born and raised in Dallas,Texas, Scott started playing the trombone in the sixth grade in the public school system.  He later switched to the bass trombone in the eighth grade.

Mr. Thornton received his Bachelor of Music from The University of Houston. While a student working towards his Master’s in Music Performance at The Juilliard School, Scott won his position with the San Francisco Ballet Orchestra.

Mr. Thornton has performed with the New York Philharmonic, the San Francisco Symphony, the San Francisco Opera, the Minnesota Symphony, the Houston Symphony, the Juilliard Orchestra, and the Tanglewood Music Festival Orchestra. His work in the recording studio at Skywalker Sound includes performances on many soundtracks for movies, video games, and commercials.

Scott lives in Petaluma, California with his wife, Laura, and their three sons Jacob, Logan, and Caleb.
