Mia Kim, 1st Violin with the SF Ballet Orchestra

Born in Seoul Korea, Mia Kim immigrated to the United States just before she turned five years of age.  She is currently a first violinist in the San Francisco Ballet Orchestra (Grammy-winning.)  She received full merit scholarships to five music schools and universities including the University of Southern California, Boston University and the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, where she graduated with a Bachelor’s degree.  Her teachers have included Sybil Maxwell, Robert Emile, Camilla Wicks, Eudice Shapiro, Rafael Druian, Jorja Fleezanis, David Abel and master classes with Henryk Szeryng.

Ms. Kim was Concertmaster at the age of 19 at the Tanglewood Music Festival Symphony Orchestra under Erich Leinsdorf, Leonard Bernstein, Seiji Ozawa, Kurt Masur, Andre Previn and John Williams, among others, to an audience of 40,000.  She was also Concertmaster at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music (SFCM) and Concerto Winner and Soloist with the SFCM Symphony Orchestra.

From the age of 12 Ms. Kim has won dozens of competitions and has appeared as concerto soloist with orchestras including the International Music Academy of the West Festival Symphony at the famous Lobero Theatre winning the Concerto Competition at age 17 amongst colleagues in their thirties.  At 13 she was Concertmaster for the prestigious Wildwood Music Festival Symphony Orchestra amidst musicians up into their twenties.  That same year she soloed with North San Diego County Youth Orchestra performing Bach Brandenburg Concerto No. 4.

In 1984 Ms. Kim was winner of the Young California Artist Competition of the Carmel Music Society.  She has concertized in the United States, Europe and Asia.

Ms. Kim was featured concerto soloist with orchestras such as Tokyo Symphony in Tokyo’s world famous Santori Hall, Kyoto Symphony, Seoul Symphony, Oakland Symphony, and State Symphony Orchestra of Korea.  She has been on national television and radio in the US and Asia and toured with San Francisco Symphony performing in Carnegie Hall.

Ms. Kim’s passion is performing fundraiser concerts for charities (Christian missionary charities in particular.)  She has also recorded for major movie scores and Grammy Cd’s which include Linda Ronstadt, Randy Newman and Journey.  She has performed with artists such as Ella Fitzgerald, Tony Bennett, Michael Feinstein, Diana Krall, Sheryl Crow, Stevie Nicks, Trisha Yearwood, Gwen Stefani, Joni Mitchell, Michael Mcdonald, Don Henley among others.
